Public Perception of Muslims: Focus Group

Met with a group of 15 Utah State Students. Discussed Various topics concerning Muslims: Stereotypes, Media Portryal, students opinions, and where these opinions began. I think the interviews went great and that I was able to get enough footage and clips to really add to our presentation. YAY:)

Research Research Research

Well the title about sums it up. Just searching the web using different search sites mostly trying to find articles that deal specifically with the media and its relationship to the public.... how the medias portrayal of muslims shape the way the general public percieves them.

Our First Group Meeting:

met at the library at noon on 9/21
we established the plan:
divided topics up between the 6 group members
Jay & Kim: how the media portray muslims (koran burning & Park51)
Rhett & Tara: How the messages affect the average citizen
Kelsey & Caitlin: the truth about koran burning and park51
Shared research information and discussed the events surrounding media Muslim coverage and perception with print-outs and so forth.
was given my assignment to make sure that theory was taken care of in the slides. started to look into material  on the subject for fox and comedy centrals Colbert and Stewart.

meeting on 9/21/10

Decided that we would do powerpoint presentation.  Jay and I (Kim) are doing ours on how the media portrays Muslims, the mosque, and burning of the Koran.  Kelsey and Caitlin are showing the actual facts.  Rhett and Tara are doing theirs on how the public sees these issues and what they think about them.
